We have been staying for about three weeks in Kuching. Mama Daisy wasn't feeling good throughout the stay because of the pain around her right cheek. In Kuching we were able to get some medicine to cure it. When the wound was about to dry out fospa decided to leave Kuching. We left Kuching around 9.30 am on the 8th of April and arrived Bintulu around 8.30 pm. The whole journey was fine but Mama did not eat much. She has lost appetite to eat. We made the following pit stops - Serian (for breakfast), Jakar (for a short a afternoon tea) and Selangau (last pit stop before proceeding to Bintulu, and for dinner). With this trip our cumulative traveling distance reached 64,200 km.
This is our first trip for 2015. Mama Daisy is not at all looking well but she has to come on board because she needed to be taken care of. She is getting old and weak. She has been with us now for more than 12 years. Her conditions seemed bad this time around because of a swelling on her right cheek. Fospa promised to take care of Mama Daisy in Kuching. Get her well quickly. On this 52nd trip to Kuching we made the following pit stops: Selangau -for lunch, Jakar - for afternoon tea, Sebangkoi - to rest the engines, Temudok - for a 30 minutes rest before doing the last non-stop lap of the journey to Kuching. On this trip there was hardly any rain and it took us 11 hours to complete the 600 km journey inclusive of pit-stops and rest. We left Bintulu at 9.30 am and arrived Kuching at 8.30 pm. With this trip our record stands at 63,600 km.
In many of our recent travels, Inul is becoming more naughty and brave. Inul likes to squeeze with Mama Daisy for a share of the jump seat (see inset). Apparently Mama Daisy is getting kinder and more compassionate as she ages. This is our 51st trip to Kuching. The purpose is mainly to attend fospa's nephew wedding. We left Bintulu at around 9.15 am and arrived Kuching at abour 8.30 pm. We had lunch at Selangau. We did not stop at Sibu town, just by passed it. On this trip we focus on the roundabout near Serian. Before entering the town of Serian the town's icon which is the king of the fruit or Durian is clearly seen. Below the icon are the words "Selamat Datang ke Bandar Serian" which means Welcome to Serian town. On this trip we arrived Serian at around 10 am after a short 35 minutes travel from Kuching. On this 51st trip to Bintulu we made a few pit stops viz, Serian, Sri Aman, Jakkar and Selangau. We arrived Bintulu at about 8.30 pm. Here are more pics showing the Durian fruit in ferro-cement style....
We were happy to go to Kuching on this trip. The reason being we were going to spend a holiday in Kuching with fosis and her husband. We left Bintulu at 10.15 am and arrived Kuching at 8.30 pm, which was more or less within our normal traveling time. As time goes by, fospa would habitually like to make many pit stops to cool the engines as well as to have much bodily rest. On this journey we saw that the Ibans who stay along Sarawak's country roads were busy planting their paddy plots. Here's more pictures showing the Sarawak trunk road that measures 600 km from Bintulu to Kuching.
After an extended stay in Kuching, we were ready to return back to Bintulu. We left early, around 9.15 am and arrived Bintulu at night around 8.30 pm. It was raining for the most part of the journey especially from Sibu to Tatau, we encountered heavy rains. Not many pictures were taken on this trip. However there were many pictures taken of cakes in Serian. Serian is the first pit stop after Kuching. It is here that fospa and fosma would take their morning breakfast at every start of the long journey to Bintulu. With this trip we achieved a totoal of 60,600 km.
We continue our adventure come this Hari Raya. After spending 3 days of Hari Raya Aidil Fitri in Bintulu, fospa and fosma decided to spend the rest of the Hari Raya holidays in Kuching. It is somewhat a family tradition now to spend the Hari Raya both at Bintulu and Kuching. On this 49th trip, we gonna achieve a clean 60,000 km traveling record. The worst stretch of road on the Sarawak country trunk road from Bintulu to Kuching is the Tatau- Selangau portion. There are many pot holes, bumpy areas, depressions and patchy works along the stretch. The journey was on the whole fine and we experienced no rain at all throughout the 11 hours journey. We started from Bintulu at about 10 am and arrived Kuching by 9 pm. We didn't have many pit stops. We had pit stops at Selangau, Sibu and Sri Aman. At Sri Aman pit stop called "Temudok Rest Area", situated just outside the Sri Aman town there were many varieties of local fruits sold. What was important on this trip was to arrive in Kuching safely, which we did.
There will be more pictures of Inul in this post. Mama Daisy is not feeling well, so no need to show my self-portrait. Inul is the heroine today. She's an admirable adult now and getting used to traveling long distances. This trip we started late at around 10 am because there were lots of packaging to be done. Imagine the other day fospa stripped one whole mango tree of its fruits. All the fruits were packed in boxes to be brought to Bintulu, though some we have shared among close friends and relatives in Kuching too.

We did a few pit stops. First was Serian for breakfast and reading the morning papers. From Serian it was a direct route to Sarikei. We did not enter Sarikei town proper, but instead opted to stop by at Jakar - a little town just outside Sarikei. At Jakar fospa bought lots of the Kasai fruits. Here the price per kilo was so far the cheapest in Sarawak i.e. RM 6 per kilo.
This 48th trip to Kuching has been exceptional in that the journey took us 13 hours. Two main reasons for the extra long hours spent traveling were, firstly; the Gawai trafic and secondly the problem with tyre balancing. It was only in Sibu that we managed to get a workshop to balance the front tyres. Once balanced the driving was much more pleasant. Throughout the journey there were many cars on the road because many native peoples of Sarawak were returning home to their longhouses to celebrate the Gawai festival. Long queues were the order of the day.
Mama Daisy was well informed about the journey to Bintulu a couple of days ago. It's a family tradition. Fospa and fosma would normally talk to Mama about any intention to go travelling to Bintulu. This makes her ready to adapt for the long journey. Inul was also being informed a few days ago. So today at about 9.30 am we left our home in Kuching to start our long journey to Bintulu. On this 47th trip to Bintulu, fospa decided not to make too many pit stops. Thus we only made pit stops at Serian for breakfast, Betong for lunch, Sibu for refuelling and finally Selangau for an early dinner. We arrived Bintulu at 8.30 pm in fine weather. Indeed there was no rain throughout the long 11 hours journey.
On the 8th of February we took to the road again after staying slightly more than two months in Bintulu. On this journey we were driven by fospa all the way from Bintulu to Kuching while fosma took care of us. We started the journey around 9.30 am and arrived Kuching about 8.30 pm. We made many pit stops on this journey to take pictures, re-fuelling purposes and to cool down the car engine. The weather all the way was fine, without any rain. The first pit stop was at Selangau (see inset) where we had an early lunch. After that Sibu was just by-passed and we settled to take extended rest at Teku and the Temudok Rest Area. The Temudok Rest Area is just out of the Sri Aman town and was re-opened after having renovated for about two months ago. Below is the picture showing some renovations and new paintworks to the rest area building.
With this 46th trip to Bintulu our accumulated distance traveled stands at 53,800 km. As usual on board this trip was Inul, fospa and fosma. We left Kuching at 9.30 am and this time around the trip took us a little longer time because of the rainy season or monsoon which brings in much rain throughout Sarawak for at least a duration of four months starting November. Soon after leaving Kuching fospa had a short break at Serian for morning breakfast. Thereafter it was an uninterrupted journey if not for three pit stops i.e. at Sri Aman for lunch, Sibu for refuelling and Selangau for dinner.
At the town of Sri Aman we had our lunch in the car while fospa and fosma ate at a cafetaria in the center of the town. Fospa had a hearty meal of rice with fish and vegetables of the 'Cekur manis' (Savropus androgynus) with the local pumpkin or Labu merah fruit (Cucurbita moschata) (See picture at inset).
ETD Bintulu - 10.00 am
ETA Kuching - 8.15 pm
On this 45th trip to Kuching we encountered many stretches of the Sarawak trunk road under repair. This is an ongoing project by the Federal government to make driving along the country road more safe. Thus for many years to come they will be more such works undertaken and more inconvenience to road users. First pit stop was at Selangau for an early lunch. At the car park where we rested, we saw a small Pulasan (Malay) tree bearing young fruits. Selangau is a convenient stop over between Bintulu and Sibu. It is a one and a half hour drive from Bintulu.
It has been about two weeks that we spent the holidays in Kuching. Now that the Hari Raya celebrations are over, fospa decided that we should go back to Bintulu on Monday, 26th of August. On this 45th trip to Bintulu we had an additional passenger on board. Fospa and fosma agreed to give him a free ride to Bintulu. We started the journey around 9.30 am in fine weather.
On this 44th trip to Kuching we were accompanied by fosis and her hubby but they drove in a separate car. Inul is getting better now, less of a fuss. Inul loves also to rest on fosma's lap (see inset). We left Bintulu at 11.00 am and is rather late than usual. Thus we expected to reach Kuching around 10 pm. The journey was a bit slowed down because of some traffic snarl and jam on certain stretches due to the narrowness of the two-lane single carriageway Sarawak trunk road and the extra vehicles on the road due to the Hari Raya festive season.
After we left Sri Aman it was a beautiful drive into the sunset. We arrived Kuching at 10 pm and experienced no rain the whole journey. Just before reaching the Sebangkoi pit stop i.e. about 36 km away from Sarikei we passed by an accident scene. The policemen were seen busy doing their investigation works . Fospa took a bit of time to inquire from the people about the accident. Apparently a motorcyclist that tried to overtake a lorry couldn't make it in time and instead got into a head-on collision with an oncoming Kancil car. The woman driver and passenger of the car were badly hurt but unfortunately the young male motorcyclist was killed in the accident.
Driving closer to Bintulu we saw the moonlight night. Fospa decided to take a picture of the moon (see inset).
Fosma arrived earlier at the farm than us.
We only arrived home at 8.30 pm.
With this trip we clocked in another 600 km, thus making a total of 51,400 km of accumulated travelling time for Mama.
Mama Daisy is a calm, patient and keen traveller. Inul is just following in her catwalk ......
